Format: Trombone auditions for large ensembles (bands and orchestras) will take place in person. The audition format will be blind (behind a screen with a proctor).

Audition Materials:
Below is the list of the audition materials. Please prepare all the material for your instrument (tenor or bass), although you will only be asked to play 3 or 4 excerpts at the audition. You can find all of the music at tromboneexcerpts.org, using the links provided below for each excerpt. Prepare the portion of the music shown on tromboneexcerpts.org, unless otherwise noted. Non-majors may elect to prepare a solo of their choice instead of the below excerpts.

1) Berlioz, Hungarian March (up to 3 after rehearsal 5)
2) Brahms, Symphony No. 1 (all alto clef)
4) Mahler, Symphony No. 3 (first solo)
6) Ravel, Bolero (optional excerpt, but necessary if you want to be considered for first chair in Philharmonic Orchestra or Wind Symphony)
7) Rimsky-Korsakov, Russian Easter Overture
8) Rossini, La Gazza Ladra (starting at rehearsal C)
10) Saint-Saens, Symphony No. 3 (Rehearsal Q to Rehearsal R)
