At the Handel Festival, Thomas Marsh says the following about the performance of Zadok the Priest: “This symphony with its beautiful modulation having continued some time, at length the whole force of the orchestra with all the voices, full organ, trumpets, trombones, double drums, etc. burst upon us all at once in the words—‘Zadok, the priest’—the force and effect of which almost took me off my legs, and caused the blood to forsake my cheeks” (Johnstone).
