The Moravian Litaneyen-Büchlein (liturgy book) states, “In places where the home-going of Brothers and Sisters is announced by trombones, this consists of the melody O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden, repeated twice. Between [these two repetitions] a melody is played, from which one can recognize the choir from which [the deceased] has so mercifully been called home” (Carter, Trombone Ensembles of the Moravian).
