An engraving by Johann Christoph Dehne called Performance of a Bach Cantata, the frontispiece from Johann Georg Walther’s Musikalisches Lexicon, clearly includes a trombonist in a performance of sacred music in the Weimar church (see below image; public domain) (Naylor 72; Buchner 1973).
