The earliest example of trombone pedal notes notated in music, Ferdinand Hérold’s opera, Zampa, is composed (Gregory 60). The pedals are found in the first act finale, where 3 tenor trombones hold pedal B-flat in unison for ten bars (Macdonald 218).
