Early 1800s—Europe

A tenor trombone in B-flat with a zoomorphic bell in the shape of a serpent’s head, also called a buccin, is one of many such instruments manufactured in France, Italy, Belguim, and elsewhere in Europe in the early 19th century. The instrument is currently held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. See below (public domain).
