Saba di Castiglione’s Ricordi overo Ammaestramenti is published. In Ricordo CIX, discussing the decoration of wealthy houses, Castiglione says, “Some adorn [their rooms] with musical instruments such as organs, harpsichords, monochords, psalteries, harps, dulcimers, baldosi, and others like that; and others with lutes, viols, violins, lire, recorders, cornetts, shawms, cornamuse, dianoni, trombones [tromboni], and others such as these” (Boydell, Crumhorn 294).
