Martin Luther’s famous translation of the Bible into German is published. Luther translates the Greek words shophar and salpigx to Posaune (Ger., trombone). Many passages previously translated as trumpet are thus translated as trombone. For example, I Corinthians 15:52 reads, “…we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trombone; for the trombone shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible” (Guion, Trombone 151).
