An anonymous letter describing festivities for Charles V mentions trombone [sacabuche]: “The entire city was rejoicing with the music of minstrels both loud and soft [altos y baxos], chirimias, sacabuches, dulçaynas, trompetas, atabales and other minstrels, such as never had been seen” (Meyer, Crumhorn 20; Carter, Trombone Renaissance 330).
