Giovanni Battista Buonamente’s Sonata a 5 and Sonata a 6 specify “trombone contralto; trombone tenor; trombone basso” (Allsop 148). Amintore Galli, professor at the Milan Conservatory, later describes “trombone contralto” as an E-flat instrument (see 1898, below).
